• SSE is the largest academic unit at UMKC with more than 3,000 students and a retention rate of 75-80 percent.
• SSE offer more than 30 degree programs — bachelor’s, master’s and doctorates.
• We are a leader in K-12 outreach through our KC STEM Alliance with an annual total participation of over 97,000 regional K-12 students.
• We collaborate throughout the community with programs such as the Rockhurst University/UMKC Joint Engineering Program and UMKC Math Academy serving Kansas City Public Schools.
• We are a top source of research and research funding for UMKC. SSE’s research funding increased from $1M in 2008 to $72M in 2025, playing a significant role in UMKC’s recent designation as Carnegie Research 1; Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production institution, placing UMKC in the top 6% of the universities in the nation.
