Gifts to ASCE Student Chapter contribute to...
The UMKC student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents the next generation of civil engineering leaders. Each year, our members participate in leadership conferences, technical competitions, and hands-on projects that bring classroom concepts to life.
One of our most engaging initiatives is the Concrete Bowling Ball Project, a creative and educational competition designed to attract and involve younger students in ASCE. This project strikes the perfect balance between learning and fun. Participants design and test their own concrete mix, decorate their final product, and compete with students from universities across the country.
More than just a project, the concrete bowling ball competition serves as a welcoming entry point for underclassmen. It’s low-commitment, high-impact, offering students a chance to build skills, gain confidence, and start building their professional network early in their college careers. We are asking for donations to support this year long project!
Highlights:
- Consistent chapter growth over the past five years.
- Top 5 finishes in concrete canoe competitions in 4 of the last 5 years, including a first-place win in 2021.
- Introduced a concrete bowling ball in 2024, earning third place at the ASCE competition.
- Strong focus on leadership development, offering both leadership roles and structured training for student members.
- Valuable networking opportunities with local engineering professionals.
