Gifts to Society of Women Engineers contribute to...
The Society of Women Engineers student chapter at UMKC is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting individuals pursuing careers in engineering and technology. We provide opportunities for professional development, networking, and community engagement to enhance the academic and career experiences of our members.
One of our projects is a one-day, hands-on engineering event designed to introduce high school girls to the exciting world of STEM and Engineering, NextGen Women Engineers: Hands-On Discovery Day. Hosted on UMKC's campus, the event will feature interactive workshops, lab tours, and student-led demonstrations that highlight various engineering disciplines. The purpose is to spark curiosity, build confidence, and provide early exposure to engineering in a supportive environment. By connecting participants with current engineering students and real-world applications, we want to inspire the next generation of innovators.
💜 SWE Highlights:
- Professional Panels – Each semester, we host panels featuring speakers from a range of companies and STEM backgrounds. They share their career paths, offer advice, and give insight into what working in the industry is really like. It’s always a great space to ask questions and connect with professionals.
- Mentor/Mentee Sessions – This event is designed to help members connect with mentors for support, advice, and helpful insights about academics, careers, and everything in between. It’s a great way to meet new people and build a network.
- Resume Building Workshops – We host sessions where members can get tips and suggestions to strengthen their resumes and feel more confident when applying for internships. These sessions also cover how to communicate effectively, what questions to ask employers, and other advice to help first-time applicants feel well prepared before they apply.
