About

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is dedicated to increasing the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact their communities. At UMKC, our chapter works to give students the resources, relationships, and experiences they need to succeed in engineering and STEM.

Last year, UMKC NSBE experienced tremendous growth and impact. Our active membership grew by 44%, from 80 to 115 students, we hosted 50+ professional, academic, and community-focused events, welcomed 600+ cumulative attendees, and sponsored 32 students to attend NSBE's Fall Regional Conference and National Convention. We also strengthened relationships with industry partners, expanded professional development opportunities, and were recognized as UMKC Student Organization of the Year among 440+ student organizations.

This year, we want to build on that momentum and create even more opportunities for our members.

Funds raised will directly support:

  • Conference Access - Approximately $400 can sponsor one student to attend a regional or national NSBE conference, including registration, transportation, and lodging.
  • General Body Meetings & Workshops - Approximately $100 helps support one GBM, providing food, materials, and resources for students.
  • Professional Development - Resume workshops, technical panels, career preparation, networking events, and leadership development.
  • Industry Exposure - Company visits, facility tours, networking opportunities, and transportation for students to engage directly with employers.
  • STEM & Community Outreach - Programs that introduce younger students to engineering and connect UMKC students with the Kansas City community.
  • Student Support - Resources that help remove financial barriers to professional and academic opportunities.

Your Impact:

  • 💛 $25 - Empower a Member — Helps provide meals, materials, equipment, and resources for chapter programming.
  • 🛠️ $50 - Open a Door — Supports professional development, career preparation, conference registration, and student programming.
  • 📚 $100 - Support an Event — Can help fund an entire General Body Meeting or professional-development event for our members.
  • ✈️ $400 - Sponsor a Student — Can help send one UMKC NSBE member to a regional or national conference, where they can meet recruiters, interview for internships and full-time positions, attend workshops, and connect with thousands of engineers from across the country.
  • 🚀 $500+ - Expand the Mission — Helps UMKC NSBE create larger-scale opportunities including conferences, industry visits, mentorship initiatives, STEM outreach, and new programming for our growing membership.

Last year showed us what is possible when our students have access to the right opportunities. This year, we plan to expand on it.

Every contribution helps us expose more students to industry, send more members to conferences, create stronger professional-development experiences, and continue building a chapter where future engineers can thrive.

Your support is an investment in the next generation of engineers, leaders, and innovators.
